Position Summary

IREX is currently seeking a Training and Development Specialist for a Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative in Uganda. The program aims to address exploitative child labor among youth (15-18) by helping them to develop marketable skills to secure employment, and by supporting their engagement as leaders in their local communities.

This position is contingent on funding.

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide creative vision, technical design, and implementation oversight to the training and development component of this youth development program.
Oversee and contribute technical input on youth development training; oversee and develop the creation of appropriate training curriculum for youth and youth-serving professionals.
Support the formation of and activities for youth-serving organizations and networks.
Ensure that activities and milestones are implemented on track and that deliverables are of high quality.
Contribute to the development of annual plans, work plans, and reports.
Manage project staff and implementing partners.
Maintain effective working relationships with local partners and stakeholders, including government officials.
Qualifications

Minimum of three years of experience in a leadership position responsible for developing livelihoods, training, and development interventions.
Experience with the technical aspects related to the Applicant’s proposed strategy, including skills training, employment generation, entrepreneurship, alternative/additional income generation, youth employment, and social protection, as applicable.
Experience in projects promoting leadership development.
Understanding of youth empowerment and development issues.
Experience working successfully with government agencies and private organizations engaged in promoting youth empowerment and development, including the provision of livelihoods and social services.
Experience working with employers' organizations, trade unions, or other civil society organizations.
Outstanding English communication skill

To steer the SNV Uganda WASH sector, we are looking for a highly experienced professional to take the position of Sector leader

The critical task of Sector Leader will be to lead, secure resources mobilization, provide sector strategic direction, inspire and guide a team of diverse national and international advisors towards leveraging and building SNV resources dedicated to meaningful impact at scale in WASH sector. He or she  will report directly to the Country Director of SNV Uganda  and is part of the Country Management Team.
Functionally the Sector Leader will report to the Managing Director of the WASH sector and will collaborate with the Global WASH Sector Coordinator.

Major responsibilities

In line with SNV Corporate Strategy, the Country Sector Leader will:

    Business development:  develop proposals and secure funding for innovative WASH programmes;
    Programme management:  deliver effective development results, planning & monitoring,  financial management and reporting to donors;
    Advisory services: lead complex assignments  and monitor quality of  advisory services of the sector team;
    People Management: Lead and coach the team of SNV advisors, local capacity builders and consultants;
    External representation: develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders to improve SNV  market position;
    Knowledge development: stimulate learning and innovation in the team and deliver knowledge products;
    Ensure effective mainstreaming of governance and gender issues and synergy with SNV work in agriculture and renewable energy.

Qualifications:
The candidate should be at least a strong and mature senior advisor with a track record linked to the sector

    Masters’ Degree or equivalent in related field;
    At least 10 years of relevant working experience in WASH, including some years in Africa and at least 5 years in a management position;
    Proven experience with programme design, proposal writing, business development, international donor  and private investor relationship management;
    Proven experience with project planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and financial management;
    Proven experience in capacity building,  facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes, organisational learning, change processes and good governance;
    Proven experience in knowledge development and evidence based advocacy;
    A self-motivated achiever with excellent intercultural leadership, teamwork, coaching, communication, networking and organisational skills

Duty station: Kampala with frequent travel to field office

    Security situation:  family duty station,  relative political stability and no direct security threats, low to moderate criminality levels;

Duties
•    Carrying out  Laboratory  investigations  and submitting reports  Senior  Laboratory  Technologist .
•    Collecting , handling  and  transporting  specimens  to the  Laboratory.
•    Requisitioning necessary supplies for  Laboratory  work.
