For the past nine years, Invisible Children (“IC”) has been focused on bringing a permanent end to LRA violence in East and Central Africa through an innovative and comprehensive model. We focus on both protection and recovery initiatives in the region. Through our protection programs, we work with local partners to build and expand systems that warn remote communities of LRA attacks and encourage members of the LRA to peacefully surrender. Through our recovery programs, we work to rehabilitate children directly affected by the LRA and invest in education and economic recovery programs in the post-conflict region to promote lasting peace.
Position Summary:
As our programs continue to expand in the region, we are currently seeking an experienced professional to direct the Programming, Operations, and Logistics from our Regional Office. The Regional Head of Office will be responsible for leading the coordination office in Kampala, giving support to our five field offices in DR Congo, the Central African Republic, and Uganda, and ensuring the successful execution of the organization’s stated mission through the oversight and management of the strategy, design, implementation, evaluation, and daily functions of all programs and supporting operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure that all programs fit into the strategic plan for the organization, fulfilling the broader goals to protect communities from insecurity, encourage the peaceful defection of LRA combatants, and facilitate recovery and development in post-conflict regions.
Ensure that all programs are properly planned and executed with quality, accountability and measured impact, and that all programs continue to be progressive in nature.
Ensure strong systems of compliance and accountability are in place in our financial and general operations.
Work with Country Representatives to establish and oversee an annual operating budget for DRC, CAR, and Uganda offices and ensure legal and grant compliance through appropriate controls and reporting.
Maintain effective working relationships with NGOs, CBOs, the Ministries, local leadership, and civil society leaders in all areas of implementation.
Provide regular reports to the office of the International Programs Director in the US.
Oversee the strategy for and implementation of a consistent and comprehensive M&E system to ensure program quality and help guide future programming.
Directly oversee the Regional Office executive management team; have in place a performance management system that evaluates, encourages, trains, and builds the capacity of all management staff.Represent Invisible Children in the region. The IRC has been a leader in improving health outcomes for vulnerable populations in Uganda since 1998, providing health services as well as health systems strengthening, in partnership government and non-government health providers.

Position Summary: The IRC is seeking a Chief of Party (COP) for an anticipated United States Government- funded project to improve the health and nutritional status of the population in one of Uganda’s region through strengthening a district-based integrated health services package. The Chief of Party will (COP) will manage all aspects of program including meeting the objectives of the project while providing overall technical, administrative, operational, and logistical management of the project, with a focus on achieving the results defined in the cooperative agreement. The COP is responsible for developing a strong, coherent vision within the project and initiating innovative strategies across the program. The COP is expected to lead and/or participate in strategic and high level meetings and fora with Ministry of Health officials, as well as other stakeholders in the health sector in Uganda. He/she will also serve as the primary focal point for the donor. This position and start date is contingent on the IRC being awarded funding.

Requirements: • At a minimum, master’s degree from an accredited university in public health or related field. • At least 15 years of relevant experience in health sector program management and implementation in developing countries. Experience working on large scale maternal and child health programs; technical expertise in HIV/AIDS, reproductive health and family planning, water, sanitation and hygiene and nutrition. • Strong background in health systems strengthening, particularly health governance. Expertise in community-based approaches for service delivery and capacity building. • Demonstrated exemplary diplomatic, management, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Broad understanding of comprehensive health system, health, population, and nutrition context in Uganda, with previous experience in Uganda or the region preferred. • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to develop relations with local counterparts, donors, and other stakeholders. • Experience managing and leading USAID-funded health programming. • Demonstrated innovation and success in staff capacity-building and in participatory, flexible, and gender-sensitive programming and implementation. • Excellent skills in developing and delivering trainings. • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. • Ability to conduct field visits to rural communities in remote areas of Uganda. • Ability to work constructively under challenging conditions and in difficult environments. • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required.

JOB CONTEXT: Uganda aspires to be a middle income country by 2040 but in spite of two decades of progress, continued growth has not benefited everyone. In the north, 46% of the population still lives in poverty; nationally, rural areas remain much poorer than towns. Uganda has the third highest population growth rate in the world, which stretches its government’s ability to provide services such as drugs in health facilities. HIV/AIDS is resurgent, with over 130,000 new HIV infections in 2010. Sharp gender inequalities persist. Currently, we are running two projects in Uganda: • Victim assistance project in the west (Kasese) • OPEN project (inclusive employment) in Kampala If fundings are secured, this inclusive education project would enable a 30 months visibility and our presence in the field of disability in Uganda, and facilitate the development/promotion of our expertise in victim assistance in its other areas of intervention.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The “Access to quality education for all - ATTEND” project will support 420 marginalised girls in Makindye district. This Inclusive Education project has been elaborated in close coordination with all relevant stakeholders involved in the field of education and disability. An important stake of the project will be to keep coordinating with these various project partners in order to mainstream disability within their activities at both national and local level. Under the supervision of the Head of Mission you will implement the project and as any new project a full team will need to be recruited and trained in order to carry out successfully planned activities.

Responsibilities/Experience: *Support the development and implementation of CSR programs in the field of extractive industries; * Analyze environmental and social circumstances in the vicinity of extractive industry activities and develop mitigation policies, plans and procedures; * Develop strategic and operational plans for managing execution, and measuring results; *Prepare, communicate and educate target groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the world of CSR best practices; *Manage programs and initiatives which keep Tetra Tech in a leadership position within CSR and sustainable development to the extractive industries and other clients with an interest in promoting CSR; *Maintain relationships and develops channels for dialogue with key CSR stakeholders, influencers and organizations; *Lead programs, strategic initiatives, communications and structural support to improve the performance of global, regional and local extractive industry efforts; *Manage strategic relationships with the appropriate affected communities, non-governmental organizations, business associations and public agencies; *Provide subject matter expertise on CSR implications of business issues; *Conduct and ensure the completion of performance reviews; *Ensure partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements; Provide training in corporate CSR to relevant partners in the industry and those affected by extractive industries.
Qualifications:
Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities; *Excellent written and oral communication skills; *Well-versed in eastern Africa extractive challenges and practices; *Ability to apply sound business principles and practices to project management and change management processes; *Cross sector experience in the identification of and addressing CSR and sustainable development services; *Direct work experience related to the specific CSR functions in international development contexts and the extractive industries; *Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; advanced degree preferred; *Minimum of 5 years relevant international experience; *Knowledge of CSR practices and mining a distinct advantage; *Fluency in Swahili and other local languages, in addition to English, a major advantage; *East African nationals encouraged to apply.

Social Enterprise Manager, Uganda

Invisible Children (“IC”) is looking to hire a creative problem solver with a business, social entrepreneurship, and/or fashion merchandising background to manage and grow our social enterprise, Mend. Mend is geared toward improving the quality of life of women in northern Uganda who were directly affected by the LRA conflict. These women handcraft unique, high-quality bags designed to seam a personal connection between products, their makers and consumers.
With plans to expand the Mend product line, we are seeking a highly motivated Social Enterprise Manager to drive the overall success of operations and production. In this position, you will work closely with the entire Mend team and seamstresses to implement overall brand strategy through new product designs. Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage the production of new product designs in coordination with production deadlines; identify opportunities for best practices improvements
- Oversee the supply management / inventory of all raw materials and supplies, and work with the logistics department to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement
- Participate in local sourcing of raw materials in Africa
- Oversee and ensure quality control of products
- Oversee international shipments to and from the U.S. office
- Collaborate with the Social Worker to provide psychosocial programs and trainings for the seamstresses
- Serve as a brand ambassador for Mend by hosting international visitors and representing the social enterprise to the local community
- Manage all Mend-related social media
- Create original content for marketing and communications materials that highlight the enterprise, its impact, makers, and product, through stories, blog posts, and photography assets
- Directly oversee and support the Mend staff through training and capacity building
- Oversee Mend’s annual operating budget and financial management, in coordination with the Social - Enterprise Director and the Finance Department
- Coordinate with the Monitoring and Evaluation department to ensure compliance with all M&E data collection and reports, in order to assess program impact and inform future decision making
- Ensure that the facility and equipment are functioning at full capacity
- Provide regular reports to Invisible Children Uganda (“ICU”) and the IC U.S. Headquarters
Requirements:
- 2+ years experience working in production management, project management, and/or social enterprise.
- Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s degree or MBA is a plus, but experience and commitment to excellence are the biggest determining factors
- International work experience is required
- Experience managing and supervising staff; excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills
- Prior experience managing and maintaining a budget
- High proficiency in Excel
- English fluency required
- Must be flexible, open-minded, and positive
- Must be able to adapt to living and working in a developing country / cross-cultural environment
Position Details:
This is a full-time, paid position, based in the town of Gulu in northern Uganda. The start date is mid-May and contract length is two years. Benefits provided include: community housing, cleaning services, meals, paid time off, home leave, in-country health care, and emergency evacuation insurance.
