Study Nurse Needed at The Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute

The Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on IDS is seeking keen, experienced and suitably qualified Ugandans to join a team of dedicated clinical and research staff working on a trial of Adjunctive Dexamethasone in HIV infected Adults with • Cryptococcal Meningitis. The posts will be based at the Unit’s stations in Entebbe and Masaka.
Terms: These positions will be remunerated according to the Ugandan MRC/UVRI Unit systems. The initial appointments will be for a period of up to 2 years with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance
Duty Station: Masaka Reports to: Project Leader.
Key roles and responsibilities;
Carry out medical procedures related to the clinical trial.
Provide in-patient and out-patients medical care to study patients.
Provide detailed study information to patients or their acceptable representatives and obtain informed consent from them.
Completion and maintenance of screening and enrollment logs.
Participate in data collection through administration of study questionnaires.
Perform phlebotomy, collection and handling of laboratory samples in the hospital wards and ensure their safe and timely transportation to MRC Laboratories.
Perform simple rapid screening tests in the wards and track laboratory results to ensure timely feedback to clinicians and patients.
Dispense prescribed study drugs and other treatment according to study protocol guidelines.
Report adverse events to study clinicians/Coordinator, store patient folders and resolution of data queries.
Review and update clinic supplies and make requisitions appropriately.
Track participants by phone or through field workers to ensure attendance of study visits.
Offer appropriate health education and counselling to patients and their attendants.
Prepare regular clinic/ward reports and suggest improvement in clinic management.
Requirement:
Diploma in Nursing or comprehensive Nursing.
Registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council.
A minimum of 4 years working hospital experience including care for in-patients and the critically ill.
Certificate in HIV/AIDS counseling and testing and ICP/ GCP training is added advantage.
Fluency in English and Luganda

This is particularly important in the context of Northern Uganda as the majority of youth either missed out on or had their formal education severely disrupted as a consequence of the conflict. The Youth Development Programme (YDP) seeks the support of volunteers to aid implementation and build capacity of NUYDC (Northern Uganda Youth Development Centre) and local Vocational Training Institutes (VTI's). The Centre was established as part of the Peace Recovery and Development Programme (PRDP) and reports directly to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Responsibilities
Working with the Youth Development Programme of Uganda you'll build the capacity of NUYDC (Northern Uganda Youth Development Centre) and local Vocational Training Institutes (VTI's). To do this you will:
• carry out a general organizational assessment of the VTI's to determine their current and future needs
• support the development of Monitoring and Evaluation systems for VTI's participating in the DFID funded Youth Development Programme (YDP) within the Langi sub-region
• based on the organisational assessment and in agreement with the individual VTI's, build the capacity of the VTI's on financial management, data capturing, reporting and human resource development
• support VTI staff to implement the development plans, and to report to the program coordinators (NUYDC) on YDP programme and finance related issues
• highlight examples of good practice and share lessons learned amongst colleagues, other VTI's within the sub-region and throughout NUYDC's network of learning providers and with NUYDC.
Skills, qualifications and experience required
1- You'll have a relevant degree and at least 3 years experience in monitoring and evaluation, programme management or another organisational development role.
2- Data analysis, reporting and programme management/implementation skills are essential, as well as strength in one or a combination of the following areas:
management, finance, M&E, organisational development.
3- You'll be a self-starter with good communication skills and experience of working with low capacity teams.
4- You must be able to ride a motorbike or willing to learn and staff development / people management skills would be an advantage.
5- You must be a team player and understand the challenges involved in working in a different environment.

We'll ask you to commit 24 months to make a sustainable contribution to our development goals. We seek to recruit a Socially Stable, mature person aged 28 - 45 years to lead the development and implementation of institutional partnerships strategies to support SOS Uganda increase it's local funding as well as establishment of strategic partnerships with government institutions and other private organizations. SOS Children's Village Uganda works to achieve the highest level of service delivery for children in our target group. The Programme Officer will be based at the national Office and reports to the National Programme Advisor.

Resposibilities:
1- Identifying institutional partnership opportunities at the national local level ie bilateral, multilateral international organizations embassies and foundations to support the works of SOS
2- Leading proposal writing and coordinate the proposal development process and maintain regular contact with partners by organizing roundtable, face to face meetings and attending donor forums to support programme development
3- Coordinate, monitor and assess the quality of donor reporting, ensuring that donor requirement are met during the project implementation phase
4- Develop and maintain good relationships with donors through regular communication, knowledge exchange and efficient reporting
5- Develop and implement institutional partnership strategy in line with the needs of SOS Children’s villages Uganda and ensure that it is incorporated within the national plans
Position Requirements:

2- Should have Knowledge/proven experience in a number of the following areas: Monitoring & Evaluation, Project Cycle Management, Proposal development, partnership development, child rights, networking, advocacy, public relations and working experience of relevant government policies
3- At least 2 years progressive work experience with NGO or other development organizations in Programme development work
4- Practical experience in Resource mobilization and implementation of programmes will be an added advantage
5- Knowledge and practical experience in fundraising and managing multi donor projects is required
6- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
7- Knowledge of log frame development, project design and management is desirable.
