The Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on IDS is seeking keen, experienced and suitably qualified Ugandans to join a team of dedicated clinical and research staff working on a trial of Adjunctive Dexamethasone in HIV infected Adults with • Cryptococcal Meningitis. The posts will be based at the Unit’s stations in Entebbe and Masaka.
Terms: These positions will be remunerated according to the Ugandan MRC/UVRI Unit systems. The initial appointments will be for a period of up to 2 years with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Duty Station: Masaka Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Key roles and responsibilities;
Handles samples and performs analytical procedures under the supervision of the Laboratory Technologist.
Preparation of sample aliquots and storage at appropriate temperature.
Daily monitoring and recording of freezer temperatures.
Reception, identification and ensuring chain of custody of Trial samples according to GCLP procedures.
Data entry into the laboratory data management systems.
Abide by laboratory Health and Safety Procedures.
Requirement:
Must Have a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
Current registration with Allied Health Professionals Council.
At least two years working experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
GCLP training and computer literacy are desirable.
Working experience in a laboratory clinical research trials environment is added advantage.

Purpose of the Position
Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Representative, you will provide leadership to the Planning Section and guidance to the PCR Managers, Chiefs of Field Offices, Zonal and Sectoral specialists on all aspects of the country programme needs for planning, monitoring and evaluation, including those related to UN Delivering-as-One in Uganda. Work closely with the Chief of Social Policy and Evaluation to ensure timely implementation of all planned studies, assessments and evaluations during the country programme period, including the MTR, rolling situation analysis and end of cycle evaluation, and integration of results/outcome in the rolling work plans and budgets, and annual programme progress and other reports.
Key Expected Results
1. Keep continuously abreast with the situation of children and women in Uganda, and ensure collection, analysis and dissemination of updated data and information on child survival, protection and development in the country, with emphasis on updated human rights-based district specific situation analysis for the 58 UNICEF districts for additional emphasis. Ensure continuous flow of information on the situation to the Dep. Rep, the Representative and the PCR Managers for policy development, planning, advocacy and resource mobilization. Provide substantive technical support to the Deputy Representative for the new country programme process, including preparation of strategy note, country programme document (CPD), country programme plan of action (CPAP) and coordination of UNICEF inputs to the UN Country Assessment, UNDAF strategies/outcomes or UNDAF Action Plan and Joint Programmes, ensuring coherence with UNICEF CPD/CPAP and emerging needs of children.
2. Responsible for the development and continuous updating of HRAP based planning and monitoring guidelines for the country programme and ensure that they also reflect decentralization of government planning procedures, participatory planning approaches and indicators for community and district monitoring. Ensure timely preparation and integration of UNICEF inputs into the District Development Plans for the 58 districts of additional emphasis, GOU Sector plans and UNICEF/GOU Rolling Work Plans for both districts and nationwide support. Ensure synchronization of the UNICEF support with the GOU planning cycles.
3. Provide guidance and procedures to the area programme managers and project officers, districts on all aspects of program planning and monitoring according to UNICEF's, policies, guidelines and operational procedures, especially those specifically developed for the CP.
4. Ensure timely implementation and effective monitoring of UNICEF inputs (cash, supply, contract, training, and travel) and participate in quarterly and annual reviews and planning exercises for the 58 districts supported by the CP on a rotating basis and the national level meetings when needed. Undertake frequent CP monitoring visits to the 58 districts to assess the effectiveness and cost efficiency of UNICEF assistance to the districts for planning monitoring and adjustment of strategies and approaches.
5. Ensure establishment of an effective district based monitoring system for regular assessment of community and district specific targets and outcomes related to CP goals and ensure linkage between lower government and district and national monitoring systems. Establish capacity building monitoring system at district level which reflects UNICEF's contribution to the individual districts in terms of training, management support, communication and logistics and other items which are supposed to enhance and facilitate country programme implementation.
6. Provide backstopping to the Reports Specialist to ensure timely submission of donor, progress and any other reports requested by the Deputy Representative or the Representative's office
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Advanced university degree in Social Sciences or other related field.
Eight years of relevant work experience at the national and international levels in social development, management, monitoring and evaluation.
Fluency in English and another UN language. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is an asset.

The Global Advisor, M&E will seek to establish meetings with key implementers in the critical start-up phase of programs to ensure the best possible chance of success. This position will be based in either Kampala, Uganda or Nairobi, Kenya.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide Monitoring and Evaluation training and mentoring on-site for SP Country Directors, and their Program Management/M+E staff;
As a basic step in program development s/he will provide guidance in the design of program monitoring and evaluation strategies specific to each project while using the tools developed in the Program Management Guidelines.
Train and/or participate in rapid or baseline-assessments which serve as a basis for validation of outcomes of all program activities.
Be available to assist/advise/support field offices in conducting project evaluations on a project to project basis to ensure maximum impact.
Assist offices in developing data entry, storage and analysis templates to assist with M+E.
Be available to advise on statistical analysis of project data and conduct advanced analysis when required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree (MSc.) or equivalent in statistics or similar subject; or ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
One year of college-level Biblical studies is preferred

JOB CONTEXT:
Uganda aspires to be a middle income country by 2040 but in spite of two decades of progress, continued growth has not benefited everyone. In the north, 46% of the population still lives in poverty; nationally, rural areas remain much poorer than towns. Uganda has the third highest population growth rate in the world, which stretches its government's ability to provide services such as drugs in health facilities. HIV/AIDS is resurgent, with over 130,000 new HIV infections in 2010. Sharp gender inequalities persist. Currently, we are running two projects in Uganda:

OPEN project (inclusive employment) in Kampala If fundings are secured, this inclusive education project would enable a 30 months visibility and our presence in the field of disability in Uganda, and facilitate the development/promotion of our expertise in victim assistance in its other areas of intervention.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The 'Access to quality education for all - ATTEND' project will support 420 marginalised girls in Makindye district. This Inclusive Education project has been elaborated in close coordination with all relevant stakeholders involved in the field of education and disability. An important stake of the project will be to keep coordinating with these various project partners in order to mainstream disability within their activities at both national and local level. Under the supervision of the Head of Mission you will implement the project and as any new project a full team will need to be recruited and trained in order to carry out successfully planned activities.

The Water Trust (TWT) is an international NGO combatting disease and poverty in the developing world with investments in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Currently our geographic focus is Masindi District in Western Uganda. Our WASH model concentrates on shallow hand dug wells and boreholes with a complementary sanitation and hygiene program. Additionally, we implement a WASH in Schools program at local elementary schools. TWT's vision is simple: to live in a world where all people have access to clean water and practice healthy sanitation and hygiene behaviours. The need is most certainly there - 780 million people do not have access to clean water and over a billion people do not have access to a toilet. In order to support our team in Masindi, Uganda TWT is recruiting a Website Manager Intern. Applicants are currently being accepted. Responsibilities include:
Update WordPress website - www.watertrust.org - with data from the field: narratives, videos (youtube) and photos (flikr)
Review and revise current website to increase effectiveness for all stakeholders
Make suggestions and implement improvements to make website more user friendly
The ideal candidate will:
Be a self-starter
Have experience managing a WordPress-ran website
Be comfortable collecting data from Excel spreadsheets and updating website
Have expertise in: WordPress, Excel, Word, Youtube, flickr and social media
Have an interest in international development and the water crisis

Requirement
A Bachelors Degree in any of the following ;Agri-bisiness, Agricultural economics of general Agriculture.

Capacity to travel extensively within the country and ability to drive long distances is a must.

Ensure vehicles have valid insurance ; drivers have valid permits ; insurance claims are processed in a timely ; maintenance and serving is achieved in a timely manner
Monitor vehicle log books on a weekly basis
Keep track of fuel card utilization for each vehicle and make monthly reconciliation of bills and vehicle records .
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Logistics Management or a related field
Minimum of 2 years of fleet management experience , preferred with USAID-funded programs
