About MPL:
Monitor Publications Limited, a Nation Media Group Company is Uganda’s most influential media house, operating The Daily Monitor and Sunday Monitor newspapers, 93.3KFM, 90.4 Dembe FM, Nation Couriers and the Monitor Business Directory.


 Responsibilities:
Draft, interpret, advise on, review and monitor performance contracts/agreements by or with the Company
Offer advice to the Company on legal and regulatory matters
Work closely with the regulators to ensure compliance with regulatory matters and with external lawyers on legal and litigation matters
Advise the Company on contractual and legal terms and transactions
Provide legal advice to employees on company related issues of a legal nature
Attend to and handle all the legal administrative matters.
Arrange and take minutes of the department meetings and follow up on the implementation of decisions taken therein with the respective staff and prepare action reports.
Work closely with insurance brokers/companies; follow up on claims settlement and ensure timely renewals of policies.



Prepare and update schedules of all leases, rents, rates, company properties contracts/agreements and licenses and ensure their renewals and payments where necessary.
Ensure that leases and tenancy agreements are renewed, updated, are paid for and running and that trading licenses are current

Qualifications,
The ideal candidate must hold Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognised institution
Possession of a Diploma in Legal practice and a practicing certificate are a must

Skills & Experience:
At least three years’ professional experience with a minimum of one year as an Advocate in legal practice or as an in-house counsel in a corporate entity
Highly computer literate
Possess the ability to develop and review processes and policies
Results oriented attitude
High personal standards
Keen eye for detail
Strong communication (oral & written) skills
Ability to Follow-up and close issues
Excellent negotiation & influencing skills
Good conflict management skills
Excellent analytical ability
Possess the ability to make sound judgment & decisions
