About UNHCR:
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14, 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and co-ordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees. It strives to ensure that everyone can exercise the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another State, with the option to return home voluntarily, integrate locally or to resettle in a third country. It also has a mandate to help stateless people.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in working with host communities to involve national civil society groups in improving the protection of persons of concern
Offer support implementing and operational partners as well as with displaced and local communities to develop community-owned activities to address the social, educational, psycho-social, cultural, health, organisational and livelihood concerns as well as child protection and prevention and response to GBV.
Assist in analyzing protection risk and capacities of communities of concern.
Support participatory assessments and ongoing consultation with persons of concern
Collect data for monitoring of programmes and budgets for the AGD perspective
Accompany and interpret for senior management in their contacts with local interlocutors
Draft and type routine correspondence, documents and reports using word processing equipment and maintain up-to-date filing systems
Assist in the enforcement of participatory AGD sensitive analysis as an essential basis for all of UNHCR’s work
Take lead in the identification of individuals and groups to prioritize for counselling and field visits in an agreed criteria
Perform other duties as instructed.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
The prospective employee should have completed secondary education and possess post-secondary training in social sciences or social work.
The candidate should possess at least three years previous job experience in a related or similar job role
Personal Competencies:
Computer literacy skills
Fluency in both written and oral English.
Knowledge of another UN or local language
