The role will be based in our Ugandan office and work closely within across the all Programme and Operations Departments.

Job Summary:  The Education Specialist will support PEAS schools to deliver high quality education through on-going school-based training, support and monitoring.  The job holder will primarily focus on helping schools to improve Teaching and Learning and students’ educational outcomes. The Education Specialist–continuous professional development will support schools holistically in areas including curriculum, co-curricular activities, community engagement and child welfare

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Support schools to enhance education quality
Conduct training and supporting schools leaders in how to identify areas for development and training needs for staff
Monitoring or supporting school leaders to deliver a range of school-based teacher training (including lesson observations, workshops, mentoring, coaching etc.)
 Training and supporting school leaders to analyse performance data and create strategies to improve performance at school and subject level
Developing networks between schools to facilitate sharing of best practice and scaling micro-innovations in education
Technically supporting schools to identify and access local and regional training opportunities for staff (e.g., district government training opportunities and training provided by grassroots and local NGOs etc.)
1.       Provide training for schools on PEAS network wide Education initiatives and priorities
Delivering training for school leaders and teachers at national and/or regional workshops and conferences
 Providing on-going school-based support (e.g. lesson observations, meetings, training sessions, coaching) for teachers and school leaders to ensure that learning from training sessions is implemented
 Monitoring, collate, analyse and report the impact of specific PEAS-wide education programmes or initiatives (curriculum, pedagogy, child protection, co-curricular, educational leadership, administration and community engagement etc.) at individual schools and within specified clusters or regions
2.      Monitoring and reporting
Monitoring the implementation and impact of various PEAS Uganda education initiatives at individual schools and at cluster level
Create timely, accurate and evaluative reports for Regional Advisers and the Education Manager to enable tracking of specific and general quality education initiatives including evaluations of impact at school
Conduct consultations with school level stakeholders to feed into education programme design and evaluation
3.     Supporting schools to implement School Improvement Plans
Support each PEAS school to action the recommendations from its School Inspection report though the implementation of its annual School Improvement Plan
 Liaise with relevant PEAS Uganda departments to support implementation of School Improvement Plans.
4.     Perform Other Duties
As may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·                     The Specialist should hold a bachelor degree (Education). A relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
·                     At least three years’ experience in capacity building and teacher training.
·                     Stay abreast with recent development in Education sector.
·                      Trainer of trainer’s experience (desirable).
·                     Excellent track record of improving student learning outcomes through teacher training.
·                     Good understanding of teacher training methodology and theory of change
·                     Prior knowledge of a range of methods of delivering teacher training beyond workshops and conferences
·                     Ability to model the delivery of excellent lessons
·                     Ability to analyze data to support improvement in educational outcomes at classroom and school level
·                     Ability to train trainers.
·                     Excellent English language oral and written communication skills
·                     Flexibility, initiative and self-driven
·                     Results oriented
·                      Strategic thinking and strong analytical skills
·                      Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
·                      Ability to work under minimum supervision
·                      Ability to develop positive professional relationships with a range of people
