About MSC:
The Microfinance Support Centre Limited (MSC) is an institution fully owned by the Government of Uganda (GOU). MSC was incorporated in 2001 as a company limited by guarantee, as part of GOU’s effort to promote access to affordable financial services for increased employment and wealth. MSC offers affordable credit through its network of 13 regional offices spread throughout the country. MSC has so far served clients in 110 districts in Uganda. MSC gives priority financing to support the agricultural production value chain namely; production, value addition and marketing. Besides credit, MSC provides capacity building to its clients including SACCOs, Cooperative Unions, MFIs and SMEs to enable them manage their organisations sustainably.

Job Summary: The Manager Risk will be responsible for ensuring a risk free portfolio through initiating, implementing, reviewing and evaluating risk policies and procedures and best practices.



Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the required ICT policies and procedures of the Company.
Periodically review all loan documentations and procedures to ensure compliance with loan approval policies before disbursement to minimize cases of credit risk.
Plan, budget and implement the risk management programs to ensure a risk free credit environment.
Generate timely monthly portfolio aging report from the system and follow up with the relevant zones and make appropriate recommendations.
Process cases, of loan rescheduling with the various approving levels.
Prepare & submit monthly unit performance reports with proposals on loan risk management initiatives to Senior Management Team for consideration.
Work in liaison with Legal, handle cases of fraud among clients and loan default after the zones have presented these files to the Risk Manager’s office.
In line with the MSC loan write off policies, prepare papers for loan write off for presentation to SMT and finally to the Board.
Liaise and provide support to Zonal offices including client in Management of credit risk.
Generally ensure compliance to loan/credit policies, procedures & best practices during initiation, review, processing and loan follow up.
Manage performance of staff under his or her supervision and ensure achievement of targets.

Key Performance Indicators:
Planning and designing of organisational wide risk management strategy
Implementation of the risk management process/plan for the organization
Company risk training, audits, and reporting
Management, performance and development of all staff in the unit.

Qualifications,  
The applicant must hold a good business related degree from a recognized institution.
Possession of a post graduate diploma in Microfinance or risk management or any business related course is a must.
A masters degree in Business Administration or microfinance will be of added advantage

Skills and Experience:
A minimum of five years’ experience in a recognized micro finance institution or commercial bank, with at least two years’ experience at Branch Manager Level or other acceptable supervisory capacity.
Prior experience in risk management exposure or debt collection will be an added advantage.
Comprehensive appreciation of the credit underwriting process.

Excellent interpersonal and Leadership
Possess the ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
Very strong assertive behaviour, a creative, innovative & self motivated person.
High business focus, straight thinker with the flexibility and creativity to achieve results in risk management.
Age: between 30 and 45 years.
