Clinical Officers Needed at Rakai Health Sciences Program



Clinical Officers (Several positions)

RAKAI HEALTH SCIENCES PROGRAM
Rakai Health Sciences Program is a bio-medical research and service delivery collaborative initiative located in Rakai district, South Western Uganda.

It strives to improve health outcomes of populations through a combination of community-based research, curative services, and prevention strategies. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute- Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.
The program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research and service activities.
Reporting to: Study Supervisor
To provide support to the study investigators in medical assessment of all study participants, collecting important clinical details, performing clinical examinations and relevant tests and performing follow up data collection in the clinic/field.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collection of qualitative and quantitative data by administering a questionnaire or using electronic methods.
• Provision of health education to potential study participants (as guided by standard operating procedures (SOP)).
• Seeking informed consent from potential study participants (as per informed consent SOP).
• Collection of data and biological specimens as well as proper labeling and handling of data forms and specimens as per pertinent SOPs.
• Clinical evaluation and care of participants in consultation with study physicians and offer pre-test counseling to the respondents in the study communities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
• The successful candidate should have a Diploma in clinical medicine and public health/diploma in comprehensive nursing from a reputable institution.
• Posses a valid registration with the relevant licensing body
• Working experience of at least 1 year in a reputable healthy organization
• Certificates in Good clinical practice and Human subjects Protection, experience conducting research and HIV care work is added advantage but not a requirement.
• Ability to ride a motor cycle within the study or service areas of Rakai district.
• Willingness to reside in Rakai district.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Fluent in Luganda the local language
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
