Our clients mostly comprise of Government institutes, NGO's and Multilateral Organizations. Mango Tree has offices in Lira and Kampala and presently has a vacancy for the position of:

The Design Artist develops educational and communication tools for Mango Tree clients, which are creative, meaningful and visual appealing. Our Designers work in close collaboration with our Illustrators and the Project Manager of the respective project. You will report directly to the Design Manager. Our ideal candidate is skilled in both design and illustration works, is creative, has an eye for detail, ensures quality at all times and works efficiently.



Contractual period:
The designer is offered a six month contract period. After 6 months, the contractual terms will be reviewed and revised, depending on the employee’s performance.
Key responsibilities:
1. Conceptualization and development of new materials/products
Develop new educational tools for clients by doing layout design and illustration, creating appropriate designs and illustrations that meet client needs at all times.
Create, manipulate and develop designs in various styles as needed by the client. This includes both simple and complex designs, including templates
In case the candidate is well versed in illustration work as well, the employee will undertake both illustration and design work. Illustration comprises simple, medium and complex works, in black and white or computer colour enhanced.
2. Revision of existing works
Work on any Mango Tree product that requires revision, when needed.
Ensure quality at all times. Make error free materials.
3. Assist with in-house running of projects
Communicate with project team members to ensure quality, timely delivery and client satisfaction.
Support team members with creative input.
Time management and record keeping.
Make a monthly work plan and submit to supervisor.
4. Other tasks
Pre-test products with clients, which requires travelling to the field at times.
Participate in department and staff meetings.
Assist in training new staff in design, illustration and project planning.
Assist production in setting up printing jobs.
Quality checking of material before it goes out to the client.
Perform any other administrative work or tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
5. Support other departments
Carry on any tasks that other departments in Mango Tree need assistance with e.g.
. Sorting and packing of production materials
. Poaching and lamination
. Preparations for training and pretest materials
Education, skills and experience required for this position include:
Have a strong ability to conceptualize ideas into creative, meaningful, visual communication and educational materials.
Desire to make the best tools and methods that are in line with Mango Tree’s Mission and Vision. This means striving for the highest quality on all materials delivered.
Have an eye for detail, be consistent and precise. You have to be able to catch errors in written and art work, through proofreading the headings/labels and scrutinizing art work.
Be able to read a project brief given by the Project Manager, follow the instructions/feedback/outline and ask thoughtful questions when information is not clear.
Meet project expectations and deadlines and work within the hours budgeted with minimum supervision.
Good communication skills.
Be self-motivated.
Be a team player.
Good record keeping and note taking skills. This means accurately recording changes on reviews, tracking time on projects and recording pre-testing findings.
Ability to manage small projects, by interfacing with customer, making simple project briefs, communicating clearly by email, and following the companies’ project management system.
Computer literate with knowledge of MS Word and Excel and good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (In Design, Photoshop, and Illustrator)
