Public Relations/ Communications Officer - MIFUMI in Uganda

Job Title: Public Relations/ Communications Officer
Organization: MIFUMI
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Reports to: Deputy Executive Director


Job Summary: The major responsibility of the Public Relations/ Communications Officer is to Promote and publicize MIFUMI through a wide range of media including newspapers, newsletters, radio, the internet, social media, film, documentaries and magazines. To coordinate public events and campaigns to promote MIFUMI to our stakeholders, partners, the public and staff. Act as spokesperson and represent MIFUMI and its work to end violence against women and children to local communities, local government, NGOs, the media and other internal and external audiences.

Qualifications,
The applicant should hold a degree in Journalism, communications, Media or equivalent is required. An advanced degree in the same or related field will be an added advantage.




Skills and Experience:
At least 2 years work experience in a public relations or journalist capacity. Previous work experience in the gender sector and knowledge and awareness of the gender sector specific issues will be an advantage
 In addition to fluent oral and written communication skills in English (and preferably one other language), excellent persuasive writing skills in English are required
Experience in nongovernmental organizations working to influence government policy is necessary
Knowledge of public information management principles and practices, journalistic writing and reporting techniques, and basic principles and practices of publication production
The successful candidate must also have the ability formulate, design, manage and implement organisational level PR strategies, taking into account broad as well as specific objectives of the organisation.
Experience in Radio, Desk Top Publishing, Photography, Video Camerawork and/or editing, Web-design skills, CS3 Adobe Suite (Dream weaver, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Possess cultural awareness and commitment to women’s empowerment
