About UCCCU:
Uganda Crane Creameries Cooperative Union Limited (UCCCU) is a farmers’ organization whose main objective is to promote dairy farmers, coordinate their activities and work out programmes to improve dairy farming and processing within the region and collaborate with other stakeholders in the dairy sector in Uganda; UCCCU is implementing projects with various development partners in south western Uganda with an aim of assisting members on extension services.
Responsibilities:
The job holder will be assisting dairy farmers in the production and supply of good quality milk.
Technically advising farmers on milk handling and supply of good quality milk.
Mentoring and training milk assistants from member unions and primary societies on texting and weighing of raw milk at milk collecting centres (MCCs)
Advising the organization i.e. UCCCU and its members on the new technologies of the latest technologies of testing and weighing in the booming dairy industry including modern systems of milk payments to farmers.
Take lead in the identification and dissemination of appropriate dairy production information to UCCCU and all its constituent members.
Design early warning systems for cattle disease outbreaks and control whilst collaboration with local authorities.
Engage milk buyers and processors on behalf of UCCCU members and agree on the quality standards of the raw milk to be supplied.
Technically guide farmers on the use of acaricides whilst ensuring dairy farming delivery and milk production extension services to farmers within the region.
Coordinating the formulation and development of the dairy production action plan to monitor implementation in tandem with plans.
Contribute to the annual Dairy Year magazine.
Mobilise farmers to supply raw milk through cooperatives
Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Project Manager / General Manager.
Qualifications,
The Dairy Extension Officer must hold a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Agriculture or a related field.
Skills and Experience:
A minimum of five to ten years of relevant experience
Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 2007, SPSS and Lotus Notes.
Strong organization and planning skills.
Motivated and have strong drive to succeed
Possess the ability to work with minimum supervision
Excellent team player with high integrity
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good coordination skills
Knowledge of the local language - Runyankole, Rukiga is an added advantage
Ability to ride a motorcycle with a valid driving / riding license.
Age: 35-45 years
