Denmark is one of the leading and long standing bilateral partners to Uganda in social, economic and political development. The overall objective of Denmark’s development cooperation is to combat poverty and promote human rights, democracy, sustainable development, peace and stability.
Job Summary: The Danish Embassy Accountant will be primarily responsible for managing the day to day operations of our Accounts Office.
The Accountant will be handling approved bills and invoices for payment
Responsible for Bank, cash and general ledger account reconciliations
Support in the monitoring Danida programme disbursements against budgets and commitments
Ensure timely compliance with relevant statutory regulations incl. those of the URA
Ensure proper filing of all accounting records and documentation
Preparing VAT and Duty-Free tax claims
Monitoring and processing payments for utilities
Assist in the financial monitoring of Danida programmes and projects
Perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Chief Financial Officer.
The best candidate for the Danish Embassy Job should ideally possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or Commerce
Additional professional qualification in Accountancy - ACCA or CPA is a requirement
Skills and Experience:
At least two year’ post-qualification experience in Accounts - preferably working with an International Development Organisation or INGO .
Good knowledge and understanding of Ugandan tax laws and how they apply to diplomatic missions and development partners
Past exposure and experience using a Navision-based Accounting System would be an advantage
Excellent communication skills - both written and oral
Extensive knowledge and interest in the area of development assistance and aid effectiveness
Possess a high degree of accuracy
Excellent analytical skills
Possess the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines
Ability to independently carry out the full range of accounting tasks - with minimum support and supervision
Ability to work efficiently in a team-based, multi-cultural environment
Knowledge of Danish will be considered a special advantage
Possess a high degree of personal integrity
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills and dependable personality with a strong sense of confidentiality
