Job description
The Product Manager should be an engineer or technical product manager to oversee design and manufacture of locally appropriate energy efficient technologies. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-moving startup focused on creating cutting-edge market-based solutions to energy access. You will have the opportunity to work on a range of products and research programs across a vast network of partners, including energy-efficient cookstoves and water treatment systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee user-centered design modifications for existing products, with focus on improving usability and aesthetic while reducing cost of goods sold.
Manage relations with design consultants, ensuring completion of project objectives as well as capture and knowledge management of project learnings.
Manage evaluation and market research
Work in liaison with market research team and design consultants, interface with customers to develop product requirements for the R&D team.
Manage selection of design concepts, drive prototyping and testing to ensure performance, usability and ease of manufacturing
Work with manufacturing network to turn prototypes into production models
Logistics: Equipment and product procurement, Importation, Warehousing, Deliveries
Market Research: Sample product testing and research
Oversee scale-up of manufacturing locations, ensuring quality assurance and control
Assist in the development of tooling and manufacturing systems at Ugandan factories
Work with entire team on after-sales product support to identify areas for product improvement
Work with partners to leverage market feedback and warranty reports to determine additional design or operational changes
Candidate description Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should possess a good record of success in high-volume consumer product engineering
Experience managing teams, experience managing client relationships will be added advantage.
Three to five years of related work experience
Experience in emerging markets a plus, preferably for base of pyramid customer population
Demonstrated ability to develop ideas and concepts into real products
Capable in experimentation, testing, analysis, and research
Work with our research, production, and sales teams to design and develop new products and improve current designs.
Ability to design parts for high volume manufacturing processes, including tooling, production, and assembly processes
Extensive knowledge of prototyping processes, including rapid prototyping
Hands-on machine shop experience; ability to create through physical fabrication
Excellent management and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and to meet deadlines with limited supervision
Attention to detail
Professionalism; Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural environments
Enthusiastic and creative thinker
Self-motivated and proactive, experience working in a start-up environment a plus
Compensation: Impact Carbon offers a highly competitive salary and benefits package. Salary is dependent on experience.
