Job Title: Manager IT Applications (Uganda)

Job Summary: The primary role of the Manager IT Applications is to create; maintain and drive a continuous improvement plan and to ensure that all legal; contractual and regulatory obligations are satisfied. Lead small application teams to ensure the availability of a portfolio of applications and ensure that assigned application incidents are resolved within predetermined resolution times.

Key Roles
To lead the application support team to provide application support and incident resolution for a portfolio of applications.
Evaluate; instill; configure and deploy new applications; systems software; products or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.

Ensure that applications meet business requirements and systems goals; fulfil end user requirements and identify and resolve system issues.
Collaborate with analysts; designers and system owners in the testing of new software programs and applications.
To analyze documentation and technical specifications of any new applications under deployment or consideration to determine its intended functionality.
To ensure that any new software integration into company systems meet functional requirements; system compliance and interface specifications.
To design; develop and install application enhancements and upgrades.
Negotiate contracts with software and service providers.
Liaise with company’s software suppliers for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.
Manage and provide direction for the application team in support of the business operation.
Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products under consideration for purchase and give advice on findings.
Contribute to pre-testing phase of development by evaluating proposals in order to identify potential problem areas and make appropriate recommendations.
Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with quality assurance; program logic and data processing.
Coach and mentor direct reports to ensure staff motivation is high.
Ensure performance and compliance obligations the commercial division are met.
Direct and monitor work of subordinates.
Ensure the team is led; motivated and rewarded to achieve key performance areas.
Identify staff training and development needs and implements necessary actions.
Participate in cross functional teams.
Set goals and objectives for direct reports, monitor progress and maintain motivation.
Set up appropriate structure to meet departmental management objectives
Perform any other duties as assigned by superiors


Qualification Skills and Experience:
The applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Systems Information or Software Engineering.

Skills and Experience:
Project management methodology such as PM Bok or PrinceII
ITIL certification/knowledge.
Five or more years related IT experience – preferably in managing IT teams, which a technical knowledge of software services; project management experience and a sound understanding of ITIL standards and best practice within operational environments.
Strong functional knowledge of information Systems.
Knowledge in Computer Data Networks (LAN/WAN).
Ability to work under pressure
