Purpose of the post: Under the close supervision of Maternal Health and HIV/AIDS Specialist, the incumbent will contribute to the formulation, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNICEF-Uganda’s interventions on maternal and new-born health and HIV/AIDS. The incumbent will contribute towards keeping the “Alive” team apprised of new developments and best practices that support the reduction of maternal and new-born mortality in Uganda and advocates with the MoH for adoption of those policies; Prepare regular status reports to donors and other partners; Provide technical and operational support and guidance in the field and provide capacity building for those involved in programme implementation.
Required Qualifications, Competencies and Attributes Advanced degree in Public Health or related discipline is essential, preferably in Medical or Nursing; Public health or clinical specialization in maternal or newborn health-related or HIV/AIDS is an advantage. At least three years of professional experience in public health, with at least two years experience in maternal and newborn health. International public health experience is an advantage; Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating maternal and newborn health programmes in Uganda; Experience in development of materials for capacity-building and health education; Experience in supporting and coordinating project activities across a large organization and with other international partner organizations; Proven ability to manage relationships with partner agencies, including MoH, donors and national and international NGOs; Proven skills in communication, networking, strategic thinking, advocacy and fundraising; Proven ability to conceptualize, plan and execute ideas as well as to transfer knowledge and skills; Fluency in English is required and strong written and verbal communications skill therein strongly desirable.
