Roles
Under the overall supervision of the office /deputy Head of office and under the direct supervision of the OHCHR human rights officer and within delegated author the National Programme officer will be responsible for the following
- Plan and implement programs adequately to monitor the Human rights situation in their area of coverage
- Research and collect information pertaining to human rights matters from a variety of data resources (eg communications, publications, the press) to keep abreast with a variety of issues /events and provide up –to-date information ;
- Assist in the analysis of information ,including the impact of human rights situation in assigned area;
- Timely entry of human rights cases in human rights date base as required;
- Draft a variety of the reports briefing papers and correspondence relating to human right matters;
- Maintain awareness of current human rights issues , including relevant political and legal developments in the region concerned
- Monitor legislative development with implications for human rights and offer advice to country office and stakeholders
- Where required, manage the day to day running of a field office and ensure its effective functioning
- Perform other related issues as required
Qualification
University degree in law, political sciences or international relations, social science or any other displine related to human rights. Advanced studies in the area of human rights-masters or equivalent will be an added advantage.
Working experience of at least 5 years in national, regional or international organization or non-government organization closely related to the field of human rights
