SNV Uganda has been working in domestic biogas since 4 years and will continue this work for at least the next 4 years. We are starting the following two new programmes:
The Integrated Renewable Energy Services (IRES) project will be implemented in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania and Ethiopia. This 2 year project aims to design, develop and validate innovative Improved Cooking Solutions (ICS) and pico-solar PV business models and distribution channels based on market intelligence assessments in the four countries. The project will include Inclusive Business development with major companies, aimed at tangible impact at scale.
The PicoPV4Africa project will be implemented in Uganda, DRC and Burkina Faso. This 2 year project aims to improve market access to and use of quality pre-electrification pico PV units (lanterns, phone chargers, small multi-room lighting kits) for poor rural and off-grid households and businesses by ensuring that demand meets supply through the development of innovative “last mile” distribution channels and financing opportunities.
We are looking for an expert in Market development of Renewable Energy Technologies and private sector development who will have the following responsabilities:
Responsibilities
Project Manager for multi-country IRES project (60%)
Support the project teams in the 4 countries with emphasis on Ethiopia and Uganda Pulling together the results in the countries to multi-country results Knowledge development and sharing between countries Secure new additional funding for IRES
Advisor in the PicoPV4Africa project (20%)
Support the Pico PV 4 Africa project in Uganda
Country Sector leader Renewable Energy in Uganda (20%)
Overall responsibility for the SNV Uganda RE portfolio: deliver effective development results, planning & monitoring, financial management and reporting to donors Monitor quality of advisory services of the country sector team Business development : secure fundable opportunites for SNV Uganda Renewable Energy sector People Management: lead and coach the different teams of SNV advisors, local capacity builders, consultants, partners.
Candidate
Masters’ Degree or equivalent in related field; At least 6 years of relevant working experience in renewable energy with an outstanding track record in Improved Cook Stoves. Experience with Pico PV is a plus. Minimum of three years experience in inclusive business development with private sector actors. Out of the box thinker for innovative business ideas Proven experience with project management: project planning, monitoring, evaluation, reporting and financial management; Proven experience with business development, programme development, knowledge development, proposal writing, international donor- and private investor relationship management; Proven experience in capacity building, facilitation of multi-stakeholder processes, change processes and good governance; Proven experience for capacity building in renewable energy related policies, promotion and regulatory areas; A self-motivated achiever with excellent intercultural leadership, teamwork, coaching, communication, networking and organisational skills
Duty station
Kampala with frequent travel (upcountry in Uganda and about 4 times a year to Ethiopia and other countries in the region).
Medical facilities: adequate for treatment of common illnesses.
Educational facilities: Several good international schools (primary & secondary)
Security situation: family duty station, relative political stability and no direct security threats, low to moderate criminality levels;
Accessibility: five flights daily to Nairobi and daily flights to Europe; upcountry SNV offices accessible by road.
Communication: good telephone and internet services
Contract duration: 2 years (till 31 December 2015) with the possibility of renewal depending on funding
