MDR TB Coordinator - Ministry of Health in Uganda

About WVU:
The Emergence of Drug Resistant TB (DR-TB) in Uganda is of critical concern. In this regard, the Ministry of Health - NTLP established a Drug Resistant TB Management Program in July 2012. The program set up a DR-TB Coordination office to oversee overall roll out and
expansion of the programmatic management of drug resistant TB (PMDT) country wide.

Key Duties
To Coordinate dissemination of MDR- TB, TB guidelines, SOPS and protocols
Support Maintain an updated DR -TB Master register at NTLP
Ensure a coordinated initiation of all newly diagnosed DR TB patients on treatment by treatment sites.
Ensure DR TB cohort reviews are performed
Liaise with the NTRL to ensure routine MDR -TB surveillance through TB specimen referral system (TSRS), sputum and culture and DST, follow up tests are done and results documented and relayed to treatment sites
To participate in the revision of drug resistant TB guidelines, SOPs, planning and strategies and update of training materials.
To ensure that Drug resistant TB variables are fully integrated in TB data collection tools and M & E system.
To ensure dissemination MDR- TB rollout strategy



To participate in resource mobilization activities for Drug resistant TB management
Liaise with the Supplies/medicines quantification teams to ensure drug resistant TB diagnostic and treatment supplies and medicines are prioritized for procurement
To ensure newly diagnosed MDR TB patients are linked to treatment sites and initiated on treatment
Draft and conduct proposals for operational researchers
Perform other duties assigned by the Program Manager NTLP
Key Performance Indicators:
Monthly and Quarterly and annual performance reports on Drug resistant TB patient enrollment
Summary reports on DR- TB cohort treatment progress quarterly
Updated guidelines, SOPs and training materials for DR TB management
Drug resistant TB rollout strategy disseminated and implemented
MOH PMDT steering committee meetings held and actions followed up

 Qualifications,
The applicant should be a medical doctor with prior clinical orientation including vast experience in TB control/care, TB infection control (TB IC), TB/HIV Co-management, Childhood TB and a Training and experience in Drug resistant TB management.
Possess a Master's degree in either Public Health or Msc. Health Services Management its equivalent or Epidemiology or Internal medicine.

Skills and Experience:
Must possess technical expertise in TB control with emphasis on implementation of the Stop TB Strategy.
Skills in development of guideline on TB, TB IC, TB-HIV and PMDT
Knowledge of new molecular technologies including LPA and GeneXpert plus experience in TSRS
Excellent oral and written communication skills; as well as computer skills
Knowledge of new molecular technologies including LPA and GeneXpert plus experience in TSRS
Demonstrated experience in working with Local Government and MoH including knowledge on Global Fund modalities
Conversant with TB technical support supervision and other quality improvement approaches like PIA.
