About Us:
Makerere University School of Public Health in partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is implementing the Public Health Fellowship Program (PHFP), an initiative to develop the next generation of public health leadership for Uganda. The goal of this program is to develop a competent workforce by learning-through-service and responding to real public health problems of Uganda. The PHFP is a 2-year, non-degree full-time program offered on a competitive basis to Ugandan nationals who seek to become leaders in public health practice.

Job Summary: The Field Coordinator will primarily oversee and manage the field component of the PHFP by ensuring that all field activities are conducted in a manner that will enhance the learning of fellows.



Responsibilities:
Actively participate in the design, implementation and review of the field-based component of the PHFP
Develop review and implement the field guidelines for Fellows work and their supervision by mentors, MOH and other partners
Works closely with the MOH hosting departments to ensure appropriate terms of reference for Fellows, to enable their learning, growth, and development
Act as a key liaison for the PHFP and MOH to identify desired projects and activities, ensure adequate mentorship, and access to learning resources (including data) from hosting departments
Coordinate and lead field based activities for Fellows, including epidemic investigations and response
Develop/ review and implement a system of ongoing evaluation of fellows outputs and field activities
Make regular visits to host institutions to establish and monitor progress of fellows
Work in tandem with the Training Manager to plan, oversee and participate in the support supervision and mentorship of Fellows
Identify key resource persons within MOH who may provide additional support to fellows
Maintain cordial working relationships with partners of the PHFP, including local governments and MOH departments and manage expectations for both fellows and the MOH hosting Departments

Qualifications,
The ideal candidate for this vacancy should hold a Post graduate degree in Public Health or any other health related field

Skills and Experience:
A minimum of five years’ working experience in Public Health programs and research; with managerial/supervisory responsibilities. At least 3 of years should be in planning, organizing and delivery of pre-service and in-service trainings
Additional training in adult training methods
Field Epidemiology related studies
Extensive knowledge of the principles of Adult learning
Skills in Curriculum Development
Current situation and trends in HIV/AIDS situation in Uganda and services provision
Pro-activity, ability to discern and think critically
High degree or personal integrity
Creativity and problem solving
Possess the ability to work well in a team
