Job Summary: The Monitoring and Evaluation Program Associate will primarily be responsible for developing and assisting with implementation of organization's monitoring and evaluation of combined micro economic development and conservation program, including staff training, monitoring and evaluation innovations, data analysis, and report writing, working with organization's team throughout East Africa. S/he will also be responsible for data analysis, data collection, report writing, field visits, training of trainers, innovations in monitoring and evaluation tools, and methodology, and design, and oversight of special projects.
Responsibilities:
1. Data Collection and Analysis Role:
Support the collection of field-level monitoring data for each of organization’s 3 cycles per year;
Assist with data compilation, data quality review, and analysis of all field data;
Co-manage innovations, data collection for special projects, and reports for funders;
Assist in analyzing data, and writing narratives for each of 3 end of cycle performance evaluation reports;
Assist with data entry;
Work closely with enumerators in each office to successfully carry out data collection for each of 3 cycles per year.
2. Monitoring and Evaluation Role:
Assist in improving targeting of the ultra-poor if needed;
Actively participate in special project evaluations, and reviews of monitoring and evaluation tools;
Assist with innovating new tools for monitoring and evaluation;
Create additions to on-going evaluation processes;
Assist in the training of staff and enumerators on data collection/interviewing, data entry, analysis, and other tasks as required for monitoring and evaluation;
Compile and submit weekly reports on data quality and compile all data into excel spreadsheets each week in anticipation of the end of cycle reports.
3. Operations Role:
Assist in the adaptation, implementation, monitoring, and expansion of the organization's core program;
Offer management support in cooperation with the senior director of programs and operations, country directors, and field staff, in Kitale, Kenya, and Soroti and Hoima, Uganda;
Promote a strong work ethic among the field coordinators and business mentors, and all colleagues;
Train trainers, mentor other employees, and build capacity in country offices;
Participate in program associates calls to develop a strong internal learning mechanism;
Act as a primary liaison between the field operations team and development team in the US.
Qualifications,
The applicant should hold a bachelor’s degree in International Development, Community Development, Development Studies, Economics and/or significant experience in conservation “pro poor” programs or community development programs in extremely rural areas;
High critical thinking and analysis skills:
The candidate must possess the ability to identify potential solutions to challenges in new environments;
Possess the ability to come up with creative solutions in a short timeline/under pressure;
Highly proficiency with Google docs, gmail, and android applications;
Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the entirety of the MS Office suite required;
Skills and Experience:
Knowledge of/experience with STATA, SPSS, or SAS preferred.
Excellent training and communication skills;
Proven ability to communicate key concepts to audience of people with less than level 5 education;
Show team-building education capacity within peer group;
Explain and discuss key issues with senior management and representatives of partner and donor organizations;
Ability to write clear, concise emails highlighting issues and problems, key information.
Work independently and as part of a team;
Prior experience working effectively in a highly independent capacity – self-managing, taking ownership of goals, developing work plans and self-deadlines;
Past exposure and experience working as part of a diverse team and willingness to work via email, Skype and other internet based communications;
Strong writing and oral communication skills required, as this role will involve report writing and training at times.
Language: English fluency required, Kiswahili, Runyoro, Luo highly preferred;
