Job Title: Operations Manager
Organization: VisionFund Uganda (VFU)

Reports to: CEO

Job Summary: The Operations Manager will be responsible for;
The extension, monitoring and documentation of branch operations;
The efficiency and effectiveness of branch operations;
The quality of the loan portfolio of VFU
The deposit level of the branches
Overall quality control of the institution’s products, systems and services

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordination of all operational activities (30%)
Exchanges information with the CEO and other departments and secures an adequate information flow within the branch operations department;
Recommends to the top management any proposed major changes on branch offices or infrastructures, such as relocation, renovation, etc.;
Consults with the MIS/ IT department any monitoring or reporting related issues, and resolves the issues at the soonest time possible;
Principal advisor of the Chief Executive Officer on all matters relating to the Operation of the Branches
Sits with the Executive Credit Committee, the body tasked to evaluate & approve all loans
2. Planning (10%)
Plans and ensures the implementation of an adequate and timely reporting system with focus on each branch’s asset quality, liquidity, capital adequacy, and provisioning;
Coordinates the individual branch plans and works with finance & the CEO on the development of an overall business plan.
Ensures adequate branch and functional staffing
3. Marketing (10%)
Participates in the development of proposals for further improvement of operations, including concepts for new products and services;
Coordinates with the marketing manager the planning and initiation of promotional measures;
4. Portfolio Quality (15%)
“Champions” the efforts at managing delinquency by closely monitoring the zones/regions and ensuring strict compliance to all policies and procedures;
Actively leads organizational response to branches with non standard portfolio quality



5. Savings (5%)
“Champions” the efforts in mobilizing savings from the public when the time comes
6. Growth (5%)
Leads the effort in locating prospective areas for opening new branches
Supervises the day-to-day branch operations through the Zonal Managers to ensure that the targets set and agreed upon are met;
Works with treasury on matching liquidity to business growth plans
7. Operational procedures (10%)
Proposes to the CEO any changes or enhancements to the branch operations manual
Ensures compliance to all existing regulations;
Oversees the implementation of the internal control systems, ensuring the smooth running of the business and safeguarding the institution’s assets; Follows-up with the concerned regional/zonal manager(s) any actions required from the branches as recommended by the audit findings;
Decides on all operational issues within the framework of existing regulations and management decisions;
Ensures that policies and procedures are applied
consistently and uniformly across all branches;
8. Staff Development (5%)
Ensures that the operations staff receive adequate training;
Participates in development/ reviews of curriculum for training of the Credit Officers;
Collaborates closely with Training Officer in matters of training new and in service operations staff
Undertakes performance appraisals and staff development plans for all supervised staff
Coordinates with the HR department in planning personnel capacity building of the branches;
9. Integration (5 %)
Champions integration within the branch operation and WV ADPs
10. Any other duties that may be assigned by the CEO from time to time (5)

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The applicant should hold a University Degree in economics, accounting or business administration or any other social science field.
Hands on experience in credit and deposit operations.
At least 3 years’ experience at a senior managerial level
Determined personality with initiative, perseverance and the ability to motivate and manage a team
Capability and willingness to take responsibility and highly developed sense of rectitude
Ready to comply and live up to and in accordance with the organization Ideals and Core Values
Be a good trainer, facilitator, mentor, and coach
Very good communication and marketing skills
Good team player
