Senior Consular Affairs Officer
Senior Consular Affairs Officer - Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands
Job Summary:
The Senior Consular Affairs Officer (SCAO) is the first point of contact
for consular clients of the Embassy and liaises with the Regional
Support Office (RSO) in Pretoria, which acts as a consular back office for this Embassy.
He/she will take in applications for visa and
Dutch travel documents and addresses issues concerning consular
statements and legalization and verification of documents. He/She is
able to work independently and has a substantive knowledge and
understanding of consular processes.
Specific responsibilities:
• Assessing applications for travel documents, visas and
authorisations for temporary stay etc, for compliance with
statutory requirements, and checking whether the accompanying
documents are complete and accurate.
• Informing authorities and interested third parties on legislation (and
its interpretation) in the assigned field of work;
• Keeping the daily financial records, and records of visa and other
consular fees.
• In-depth interviews with family members of asylum seekers and
reporting in these.
• Coordinate and carry out DNA-examinations upon request
• Coordinate verification of documents;
• Providing consular assistance to Dutch nationals in Uganda;
• Conducting civic integration and naturalization exams;
• Prepare legalizations of documents;
• Keeping database of Dutch nationals within Uganda up-to-date;
The Senior Officer Consular Affairs has a high degree of integrity
and is able to work pro-actively and independently. He/she is a team player,
has strong analytical skills, operates customer friendly (even
under pressure), and is able to bridge the geographical gap with the
RSO with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. He/she
should maintain high legal, social and ethical standards in his/her
work
Knowledge and Experience:
• Business degree with a bias in law, management and/or
administration;
• At least five years of progressive experience in dealing with clients
in an international/intercultural setting is required.
• Experience in interviewing people and analyzing outcomes of the
interview
• Excellent communicator. He/she is very well organised and takes
initiatives to get his/her work done. He/she is also service oriented
and has a strong commitment to deliver quality work. He/she
should maintain high legal, social and ethical standards in his/her
work.
• Fluency in Dutch language is a strong asset.
